All change.
The BBC reported last week of a challenge to Einstein’s theory of the Universe.
Professor Ofer Lahav, from University College London, said “It’s a dramatic moment…we may be witnessing a paradigm shift in our understanding of the Universe.”
In simple (far too simple!) terms, Einstein, and subsequently several other leading scientists, believed that after the Big Bang, which created the Universe, its expansion would slow down. However, the latest science suggests it’s actually speeding up.
This is not the only Universal change though.
We regularly ask our members what kind of change they are going through, (as change is a constant). Previously we’ve suggested three:
- Incremental
- Step
- Game
Incremental change is a given – whatever your sector, geography, size, you will be making changes and seeking improvement in all areas of your business.
Step change is when you decide to take things up a level – perhaps expansion through an acquisition, or diversification with a new product or service.
Game change happens when you change the rules for your market. The switch from selling software to SAAS for example.
But now we must add “Universal Change” – not just because of Einstein’s theory blowing up, but as a consequence of the development of AI.
In the same way quite a few people dismissed the early stages of the internet saying, “It won’t impact my business”, so too this view is being taken by many today with AI.
And this is very dangerous, because whereas the internet required significant infrastructure development, which took a decade or more to materialise, this is already in place for AI.
We’re seeing some incredible AI applications which are not only changing business operations, but perhaps more significantly, driving cultural change too.
As with gravity, pre Newton, whether you’re aware of it or not, it exists – so too AI – and it’s a Universal change for all of us.
