Spot the difference.
On X/Twitter, Derek Guy (@dieworkwear) showed these two shoes.
One pair costs $150 and the other $1,285.
Can you tell which is which?
I bet half of you get it wrong (I did).
And that highlights a big issue for many of us.
Here are the three key points Derek made about the two shoes:
- Most people can’t tell high quality shoes apart from inferior ones.
- Often, the differences are only discernible over time.
- Price and designer names are no guarantee of quality.
I suggest this applies to many products and services – and individuals too.
So if you’re buying, then you should resist your brand-influenced impulses, and do proper research.
But if you’re selling, then make your invisible visible.
For example:
You know the many ways you’re different/better:
- The effort to recruit and properly train the right people.
- The care and attention to all aspects of marketing and promotion.
- Your insistence on being fully compliant.
- Your obsession to achieve the best result.
- The relentless pursuit of improved customer service.
- And much more.
Make it visible – help the customer tell the difference.
