Grandad lessons.
My daughter has given me permission to share the wonderful news that I’ll be a Grandad next May, (although she did add “but not in your weekly four-i Dad” – oh well!).
When I told the news to one of our Leadership Groups last week, it sparked a conversation of lessons we had learned from our grandparents…and one in particular really resonated.
“I used to go to work with my Grandad in the school holidays sometimes, and the first thing he did was open the post. This took between an hour and an hour and a half. He then worked on projects or chatted with his team and clients for the rest of the day.”
Just imagine taking that approach today, spending the first 90 minutes on your post (aka emails) and then by 10/10.30 having the rest of the day free to work on relationships and projects.
Many will argue “that’s not possible”, but why not?
Or alternatively, what if you allocated 9-10, 13.30-14.00 and 17.00-17.30 for emails? – that would still leave 6.5 hours a day for the good stuff.
