How the SAS would run your business.
Former SAS soldier turned TV star, Colin Maclachlan*, is meeting with several of our Leadership Groups in March.
During his first session, hosted by Williams & Donovan in Southend last week, he highlighted ideas as diverse as how KGB recruitment methods are being successfully utilised by companies to attract the best talent; what it takes to get through the toughest selection process in the world (from 196 candidates, just 12 made selection into the Regiment); and 10 things the SAS do that should be givens for your business which I’d like to share with you today.
The SAS/ Business parallels are:
- Missions and Targets
- Judged on performance
- Work alone and in small and large teams
- Specialists not Generalists
- Failure is not an option
- Communication is key
- Everyone is a leader (should think like a leader)
- Different backgrounds
- Adapt or die to the environment
- Win the technology war
The difference is the SAS only selects outstanding candidates, continuously trains them, and meticulously brief and debrief every mission.
And that’s what you need to do if you want to take your business to an elite performance level.
*Colin Maclachlan is a former SAS soldier with over 25 years of security and risk related experience, best known for appearing in Channel 4’s SAS: Who Dares Wins and Channel 5’s Secrets of the SAS. Colin was involved in some of the most high profile and daring SAS missions in recent times.
